A Certified Yoga Therapist, Shanchoy has accumulated over 3000 hrs of teaching and clinical experience providing yoga therapy and instruction to people of all ages and  physical ability. Her clients come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and a wide range of physical and mental health needs.

Her certifications include:

  • Certified Yoga TherapistC-IAYT - International Association of Yoga Therapists

  • 500hr E-RYT Yoga Alliance and YECEP 

  • Structural Alignment Level 1 certification with Heaven on Earth Institute in Hamilton, Canada

  • Yoga Therapy RX Level 2 certification at Loyola Marymount University and Samata International in in California

Shanchoy has been singing Kirtan since childhood as well as other forms of music and has led Kirtan groups in Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

Shanchoy's teaching includes a focus on alignment and posture, breathing technique, meditation and over-all mind-body-spirit awareness and connection. Her goal is to share the joy, calm and focus, as well as the healing  benefits that can be achieved through yoga, meditation, breathwork and music.

 

She believes that health and wellness offerings should be accessible to everyone regardless of beliefs, age, gender, race, disability, sexual orientation and other elements that intersect and with which an individual may identify themselves. I acknowledge the traditional roots of yoga, while also intercorporating the findings of Eastern and Western Science and evolving social, physical and spiritual needs.

     Yoga with Shanchoy has been an important part of my life for several years now. When we first met I had a horrible shoulder injury that had within a 4-year medical prognosis of regaining most but not all mobility back in my shoulder. 

     In the early days, she would show me modified yoga moves that worked for the amount of mobility I had at that moment in time. This was truly above and beyond her duties as a yoga instructor, but this is where she is different, she cares. I have experienced other yoga instructors but they have never compared to her. Her depth of knowledge and compassion is something that can only be experienced.

     Her classes are not about how well you compare to everyone else doing yoga in class, but focuses on where your own body is at, at that moment. Shanchoy's classes are stress-free and calming, something that I welcomed and cherish in our chaotic world. 

     Currently (5 years later), I have regained about 98% mobility back in my shoulder including the hypermobility which I was told medically would never come back. Yoga with Shanchoy has been an important part of my recovery journey.

     Shanchoy is an awesome yoga instructor that provides a calming, nuturing, and welcoming envionment in her yoga classes, which in turn attracts a diverse spectrum of people.

     Having attended many box-fit classes and cycling around the city, her classes were inclusive - offering various levels of expression for poses giving you options for the beginner to the experienced yogi. 

     I am happy to have Shanchoy as a yoga instructor because she was able to make Yoga accessible to an array of all body types and ages, build community in her classes, and ultimately improved our well-being.
